Today I was woken up by the gentleman I take care of. He called my name because he was waiting for his cup of coffee. For a second, I thought “why isn’t he getting this himself?” He’s fully capable and has done so before when I was sleeping. My mind quickly shifted to what today is, Memorial Day.
As I took him his coffee and sat with him for a bit, I realized he is not himself today. Is he thinking of his fellow comrades he served with in the Korean War? Is he thinking of his late wife? Or, is he missing his one Son who serves in the Navy? I don’t know, I’m not a mind reader. If I could read minds or predict the future, I would play the lottery.
Yet, his actions made me think. I cannot begin to imagine what it is like for the family members, friends of the men and women who have served so bravely and sacrificed so much for this Country. My heart goes out to them.
We still have men and women serving for our freedom and I am compelled to think of their family members and friends and most of all, them as well. What would Memorial Day be like for them in years to come? What are they doing today?
Some view Memorial Day in their own ways. Some may look as today as the “Official” kick-off to the Summer season. Not me, I have a calendar that tells me when the Summer season begins. A time to bring family together and celebrate the lives of those lost. No matter how you elect to celebrate today, please take some time today and everyday to think of all of those who have dedicated their lives to make this a better world for us.
I am sending out numerous thanks to all the brave men and woman of yesterday and today. To their families who bravely carry on with their loving memories. To the friends who keep their spirit alive. To everyone who in some fashion helped to make our Country what it is today. Thank you!
