My Other Job

At an early age, I became a Caregiver to some of my siblings while my Parent’s worked. Being from a large family this seemed very natural to me.

This was not my forte in life; however, it is still a big part of who I am.

In 2003, I left my hometown of Pennsylvania and moved to Florida to help my Sister with her health issues. After three years of seeing Doctors and Hospitals. It was decided that it would be best for my Sister to return to Pennsylvania to get better health care. I’m happy to report, my Sister, in my opinion is in the best health that I have seen in years.

My heart goes out to individuals in pain; and in need. No, I cannot save the world. My hope is that if I can help ease one’s discomfort, I will try.

Before my Sister returned to Pennsylvania, I started cleaning a house for an elderly gentleman. I arrived to his home monthly and did as requested.

Shortly after my Sister left, this gentleman suffered a stroke. I was faced with the decision whether or not to assist him. I didn’t hesitate. He was always very nice to me and I couldn’t begin to imagine him trying to take care of himself along with his home. I stayed from the time he left the hospital until February of 2008. I cannot take any credit for his speedy recovery; it was his will to get better. I saw a man who transformed himself. When he left the hospital he had nerve damage to the right side of his body. He worked with the Home Health Care System and regained a majority of strength. Amazing!

Several months have passed and in August of 2008, this gentleman asked if I could move in on a permanent basis to help out. I struggled with the decision. It wasn’t an easy one to make. I really just wanted to return to my home state. That’s what I knew and felt the most comfortable with.

After long consideration, I accepted his request. I did state that I needed to do my work online and he understood. I love what I do and I cannot imagine doing anything else.

My other job is very time consuming; yet, I’m just trying to take care of a gentleman who just wishes to continue on with his life.
